FAQ's

When does the FNDC summer start? What are the hours?

The FNDC summer begins June 15th, 2026 and ends August 7th, 2026. Drop-off is between 9:00 and 9:15am every morning and pick-up is 3:00pm.

What is the age range?

FNDC campers are between the ages of 4.5 - 13 years, and/or are entering grades PK-8 in August 2026. Campers are divided into the following age appropriate groups:

Wranglers: Campers currently in grades PK - 1st Grade. We kindly ask that campers in this age group are water safe (
able to confidently navigate our 5 foot pool, stay afloat, propel themselves, and enter/exit the pool safely) are potty trained, and come to camp with an extra set of clothes in case potty accidents happen.

Explorers: Campers currently in grades 2nd - 4th

Teens: Campers currently in grades 5th - 6th

LIT's: Campers currently in 7th Grade (this camper group hangs out with our "teens" group during their normal camp days)
Cellphone Policy:
FNDC is a tech-free camp. Campers are strongly encouraged not to bring a cell phone to camp. If a cell phone is needed, we ask that all campers keep their cellular devices stored in their backpacks and refrain from using it throughout the day. Additionally, all other electronic devices are banned from camp. Any camper caught violating this policy will have their cell phone/device confiscated until the end of the camp day. Repeated violations of this policy could result in expulsion from camp. No refunds will be offered.

E-Bike Policy:

Safety is important at FNDC. Motorized vehicles/bikes are not allowed to be used on First Neighborhood property or on the greenbelts. Please do not use your e-bikes for recreational purposes on the property or use your e-bikes for travel to and from camp. Camp does not store bikes or e-bikes in the facility.

Do you offer extended hours?

Unfortunately, we are unable to offer extended hours for our campers.

What does my camper need each day?

Campers are expected to bring a snack (we have a morning and afternoon snack break built into our daily schedule), lunch, swimsuit (many campers come to camp with their swim clothes and swim shoes already on and change into dry/clean clothes after their pool time), a towel, sunscreen, and we strongly recommend wearing closed toed shoes each day.

Per camper code of conduct, campers are expected to wear camp appropriate clothing throughout the day and wear camp clothes when not in the pool area.

Campers must also wear their camp T-shirt on field trip days (Wednesdays).

What kinds of activities do campers participate in?

The camp day is divided into six activity periods including swimming, arts & crafts, sports, and specialty activities. Campers also participate in weekly field trips, spirit days, camp wide competitions and optional latenights. Please download the camp calendar for general activity details.

FNDC does not offer make-up days. If a child is absent from camp, there are no refunds or make-ups for the missed day(s).

Can I pick up my child early?

Of course! Just be sure to sign out with your camper's counselor.

How often do campers swim?

Campers swim everyday during their designated swim period, and are supervised by certified lifeguards and counselors in the pool.

What transportation is used for field trips?

School buses and professional bus drivers from Durham Bus Company transport campers to and from field trips.

Who supervises the field trips?

Campers who attend field trips are closely supervised by their counselors and CITs. Campers use the buddy system to ensure that no camper is ever alone. Camp Director/Director Assistant also attends all field trips and supervise the entire group.
